Psalms 136: 1-3
We encounter hardships. We suffer failures and confront challenges. What do we do? How do we climb out of that pit of despair? The world gives us lots of suggestions, but as Christians, we have only one way: give thanks. You might not be in a thankful mood. Being grateful might be the furthest thing from your mind. You want to complain. You want to blame. You want to feel sorry for yourself. However, giving thanks is the only refuge when immersed in adversity. Without giving thanks, there’s no road to salvation!
In the beginning, search for the tiniest, most trivial matter for which to be thankful. Start small and work your way up. Soon you will be grateful for everything in your life. What happens then? Happiness comes to your heart. This joy leads us out of the darkness. So giving thanks is the starting point. It’s the starting point of being saved. It’s the starting point toward success. Once we are grateful, the joy completely delivers us from all hardships. It sets us on the road to success.
If we are not grateful, nothing is right. Our frame of mind, our thoughts, our judgment, or disposition are all wrong. It doesn’t matter how pious or “faithful” we are because without being thankful, we spiral into destruction. It might be hard to do, but at the first signs of hardship or when confronting a challenging situation, drop everything and look for things you are grateful for in your life.
We can’t help but feel humbled when reading Psalms 136. Try reading the entire chapter. We become humbled before God and others. We stand firm and steadfast in Truth and realize we have no other task in life but to give thanks. Giving thanks is the solution to all the problems in our lives. Giving thanks is the start, and happiness is the closer.

Once you’re filled with joy, all your problems are solved! You will succeed in life!
