3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”
Matthew 7:3-5

As Christians, it’s vital to be introspective and discover our own weaknesses. It’s important to love ourselves, but sometimes we love ourselves a little too much, which can hide our flaws. What is the best way to find our weaknesses? We are good at finding the flaws of others, which can be a curse or a blessing. We must turn this into a blessing.

What should we do when we notice the faults of others? Some enjoy judging and criticizing. Some enjoy backstabbing. It can lead to all kinds of sin, and the devil loves it. We revert to our Old Selves, and the devil has its way with us. That’s one way of handling the faults of others.

However, what does God want us to do? When we see a speck of sawdust in a person’s eye, we must first take the plank out of our own eyes. So when we notice a fault or weakness, immediately transfer it to ourselves. Don’t waste time judging or letting the devil have its way. Quickly think of the defect as your own. “That flaw is my flaw.”

Then, you must recognize the weakness you noticed in your brother is a hundred times more of weakness for you! It is a speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye but a plank in your eyes. We must develop this habit of seeing someone’s faults, recognizing it as our own, and realizing it is a bigger problem for us.

God works in revelations. Whenever we see someone’s faults or become aware of them, it’s not an accident. God works to reveal Himself to us. And when He wants us to recognize a weakness or fault that is crippling us, He has us notice the faults of others. It’s a great way for us to correct our flaws.

In conclusion, when we notice someone’s faults, don’t criticize or backstab. Second, think of the fault as your own. Third, realize the flaw you witness in someone else is a bigger flaw for you. And finally, God reveals the faults of others to show us our weaknesses. We must continuously work to better ourselves and to strengthen our weaknesses. Correcting our flaws is a big part of it.
