“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.”
Romans 1:16
It’s easy to fall into a stupor when listening to sermons. Sitting in a daze or daydreaming about other things is a waste of time, not to mention offensive to God. When we hear a sermon, read the Bible, or come into contact with the Word of God in any capacity, we should keep six things in mind. If we do these six things, we will notice a significant change in our lives and witness incredible growth in our faith.
First, when listening to sermons, we must reach enlightenment. When we listen to the Word of God, we search for things we must do. While listening to sermons or reading the Bible, we must think, “How does this relate to me? What course of action should I take given the knowledge I have just learned?”
Second, we must rekindle and resurrect our sleeping conscience. We are filled with evilness, and this evilness can spend a lifetime buried deep inside of us. While listening to sermons, we must revive our conscience and uncover these dirty thoughts and ideas. When we listen to sermons with a resuscitated conscience, the word of God cleans us.
Third, when listening to the Word of God, we must change! It’s useless to sit through sermon after sermon without any change. So many of us go to church for years or even from birth. We’ve listened to a thousand sermons, but we’re stubborn to change. When listening to sermons, actively seek to change yourself!
Fourth, when listening to the word of God, we must be moved by the Holy Spirit. Allow the Holy Spirit to come and work inside of us as we listen to sermons or interact with the Word of God.
Fifth, while listening to sermons, we must recognize His power working inside of us and connect to that power. Accept the power, confidence, and peace flowing inside of us.
And finally, when listening to sermons, we must believe without wavering the eternal life working inside of us and inside our faiths. Only when we believe this fact will we be able to listen and be affected by sermons.
If we do these six things, every sermon and every time we come into contact with the Word of God will be fruitful and worthwhile. Our faiths will blossom, and we will grow and change into the person God meant us to be.
