Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.
Revelations 3:19-21

God reproves and disciplines the ones He loves. We hope for a smooth-sailing journey, but we meet adversities in life. If you have been knocked off course, don’t be dismayed or become discouraged. God is working hard to get your life back on track. If you feel God is disciplining you at this moment (you will know if He is), remember to do three things.

First, we must stand back and objectively appraise the situation. We must recognize the discipline and rebuke as His love. It’s not, “Why is God doing this to me?” but “This is God’s love!” The hardships or so-called misfortunes we encounter are signs that God has turned His attention to us. It’s a sign He hasn’t forgotten about us or thrown us to the wolves. When adversity hits, recognize God disciplines the ones He loves.

Second, don’t complain. Be zealous and repent. Work harder at being good. Find the good works you’ve been doing and continue them with more zeal. Next, work harder at repenting the bad things. Actively seek out the sins you have been committing and repent. Don’t waste time complaining or talking back to God; work even harder and be more zealous about repenting.

Third, welcome God to your hearts. He’s disciplining you because He wants to enter your heart. So when He disciplines you, instead of shunning Him, welcome Him with open arms. Once you welcome Him, you can “eat” with Him, and He will eat with you. What do you eat? The will of God! If we welcome Him, we come together as a team and completely execute His will.

If we do these three things, we can sit with God in His throne.
Repeat after me:

“I will grant him to sit with me on my throne!”
“I will grant him to sit with me on my throne!”
“The one who conquers is the one who executes these three things!”

When hardship comes our way, remember God disciplines the ones He loves. Recognize it as God’s love, repent, and accept Him. If we do these three things, we can sit with God on His throne.

Summary
When God disciplines us:
1. Recognize it as God’s love.
2. Zealously repent and do good works.
3. Accept God.
4. If we do these three things, we can sit with God on His throne.
