“Come now, and let us reason together,”
Says the Lord,
“Though your sins are as scarlet,
They will be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They will be like wool.
Isaiah 1:18

We continue our series on repenting. We first started with things we should repent regarding God. Remember, repentance is the cornerstone of every Christian’s life. We need to do it, but a lot of the times we don’t know where to start. Here, we’ll learn twenty things to repent, and today, we’ll focus on repenting our relationship to the Bible. What is your relationship to the Bible? Is it just another book? Is it something you read when you have time left? Let’s take a look and repent four things regarding Scripture.

One. Repent the sin of reading other books more than the Bible. Read the Bible!
This is a hard task. Of all the reading we do, to read the Bible more than we read for leisure, work, or school seems like an impossible task. But we can thrive if we establish this as the standard and make an effort to reach this standard because the Word transcends the universe and spiritual world. Reading the Bible stops us from falling into the temptations of the world. One way to read the Bible more than other books is to put the Bible at the forefront when reading other material. Think of the Bible and verses related to the material you are reading. In other words, as you are reading other things, keep your mind on God and never forget God’s words are more valuable than anything else you can read. Even consider memorizing verses as you read other material. In this manner, make your reading and thinking time regarding the Bible more than other materials.

Two. Repent the sin of not believing everything in the Bible. Believe everything!
When we first read the Bible, we skim through it without giving it much thought. But as we grow, we begin to ask ourselves, “Do I really believe this?” We ask the Lord to give us the power to believe. At some point, we start believing and move on from there. When we proceed in this manner, settling things with faith, the Bible gives us power, strength, wisdom, and hope. So, the second thing we must repent is selectively choosing what to believe and dismissing other things as fantasy or out of date. Believe everything in the Bible!

Three. Repent the sin of not living as the Bible. Live as the Bible!
Repenting the sin of not living according to the Bible and the sin of not living as the Bible is vastly different. Be the Bible! Live as the Bible! Instead of doing what the Bible says, let the Bible grab hold of you. Become a living and moving Bible.

Four. Repent the sin of not carrying the Bible with you at all times. Carry the Bible with you at all times!
It can be hard to carry the Bible with you at all times, but when you carry it with you wherever you go, it inexplicably works to make you one with the Bible. Wherever and whenever you have time, pull out your Bible and read it. During the Korean War, to carry the Bible tested your faith. North Korean soldiers shot and killed Christians. Many Christians tossed their Bibles aside to hide their faiths. I asked myself, “How can I leave the Bible behind?” I carried it with me and did not take a step without it. In turbulent times, find refuge in the Bible! Wherever you go, whoever you meet, whatever circumstances you face, have the Bible at hand and witness His power!

Let us repent these four things regarding the Bible and do these 4 things!

  1. Read and think about the Bible!
  2. Believe everything in the Bible!
  3. Live as the Bible!
  4. Carry a Bible at all times!
