“Come now, and let us reason together,”
Says the Lord,
“Though your sins are as scarlet,
They will be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They will be like wool.
Isaiah 1:18

Let’s continue our series on 20 Repentances. In the fourth part of our discussion, we repent the sins we commit when confronting life events. How do we make decisions and select the best solutions? Are we including God in the process? After we repent our sins regarding God, the Bible, and other people, we address sins regarding life events.

One. Repent the sin of consulting only other humans when confronting life events, consult only God!
Whenever we come across an event, we must first ask ourselves, “What does the Bible say to do? What does the Holy Spirit want me to do?” As we encounter one life event after another, it’s easy to forget about the Bible and God. Sometimes life moves so fast, we make decisions and come up with solutions almost instinctively. Whatever event we encounter– big or small, grave or trivial– we must consult God first. We must look to the Bible for answers. And we must listen to God and the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of us.

Two. Repent the sin of considering only human appraisal, put God’s appraisal at the top!
When we consider God’s appraisal to be paramount, we don’t need the opinions of others. Their evaluation and assessments are useless. If we stop doing things God assesses to be bad and do things He considers good, we become less dependent on human opinion because doing as God commands brings us great success. It’s always the right solution. We don’t need to be bogged down in senseless human evaluations and assessments. When we need advice, instead of fishing for guidance among others, listen to God’s appraisal and act accordingly!

Three. Repent the sin of receiving guidance from others. Receive guidance only from God!
We should always be open to listening to others. God guides us through people. But how can we discriminate if God is working through that person or if he or she has nothing to do with God? When we receive guidance that doesn’t violate God’s laws, we receive this guidance superficially through that person, but actually, we receive it from God. God uses that person as a messenger to deliver His guidance. Whenever we need guidance, we must look only to God, and we must be on the lookout for His messengers trying to deliver His message!

Four. Repent the sin of not distinguishing help, receive help only from God!
When we are desperate, we don’t care where or how help comes our way. We’re open to anything. However, we must repent the sin of not being selective in the help we receive. We must always discern what is good and what is right when it comes to helping and being helped. Just because someone is willing to lend us money doesn’t make it right or good in the eyes of God. From whatever source we receive help, we must evaluate if it’s within the boundaries of God’s laws. If the help doesn’t violate His laws, it might be coming from another person superficially, but we know it’s coming from God. God used our parents to create us. They are His messengers. For this reason, the Bible says to honor your father and mother and you shall prosper and live long.

We encounter unexpected events and situations, and we come across the situations in our everyday lives. Whatever the case, how we conduct ourselves in these situations will determine our success or failure in life. Whenever we meet a crisis or events that seem trivial, we must always put God first. Consult with Him! Listen to His appraisal! Follow His guidance! Receive His help! If we do these four things, our lives will be blessed.
