I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance. Luke 15:7
When hardships come, take refuge in God. He’s the only one who can actually offer us any kind of refuge. We face financial, physical, societal, global hardships. Big or small, we face hardships and obstacles all the time. It’s a part of life. Whatever comes our way, we must put all other thoughts aside, drop everything and run to Him! God is the King of Kings, the Creator, and the Sovereign One. Who else can help us? He leaves us as sheep among wolves so that we can run to the shepherd. That’s it! So when we face adversity, let’s do three things.
One. Take refuge only in God.
When panic hits, it’s easy to look for refuge in everything except God. None of these things will protect us or provide cover. God is our only refuge! And to take refuge in God, we must become righteous. Being righteous means doing three things:
- Don’t sin!
- Act righteously!
- Stay connected to God!
If we do these three things, God serves as our refuge. It’s the only shelter and protection we need.
Two. Repent.
We have strayed from God. We are sheep who have wandered away from the shepherd. We drown in our sins and wrongdoings. Now is the time to repent and run to the shepherd. When we’re separated from God and roaming on our own, we run into all kinds of hardships. However, when we repent and decide to run to the shepherd, all those obstacles disappear. God clears the path for us. Repenting is the only way to take refuge in God! At your most trying and challenging times, repent all your wrongdoings!
Three. Find happiness and peace.
Take refuge in God to find happiness and peace in times of distress. Act righteously and repent! If we do these things, we discover happiness and peace. It is the kind of joy we feel when securely in the arms of the shepherd. It’s the only way to be filled with true happiness and peace.
Repenting is the only way to please the Lord; it’s the only path towards peace and happiness. God says, “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.” Yes, know the ways of the world and how evil works, but when surrounded by wolves, run to the shepherd. Run and take refuge in the shepherd by acting righteously, repenting your sins, and pleasing God!
Summary
