How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so,
But they are like chaff which the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the wicked will perish.
Psalm 1:1-6

Our faith should be vibrant and energetic. But for many of us, our faiths turn stagnant. We’re in a rut and don’t know how to get out. If you find yourself lackluster and wandering away from God, inspect the three pillars of our faith: execution, Bible-reading, and meditation. We must hit all three components nonstop and with equal force. If we ignore any of these three, we lose steam.

Execute.

“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked…” Do not walk in the counsel of wicked implies action. When we execute the word of God, we experience the counsel of the wicked. We hear their voices and are tempted by their words. Do not sit in the seat of the scoffers! Do not walk or sit! When moved to action, the counsel of the wicked and scoffers try to stop us. Who are the wicked and the scoffers? Those who do not adhere to the word of God. Overcome these temptations and do the word of God. “Diligently obey the Lord your God, being careful to do all His commandments which I command you today.” Read the Bible, meditate on those words, and act accordingly!

Read the Bible.

Why do we feel empowered when reading the Bible? The Bible introduces God to us, and it teaches us how to forge a successful relationship with God. We fix what is wrong. We nurture what is right. When we read the Bible, we connect to God. It fills us with hope, which in turn, fills us with joy. Reading the Bible also gives us a chance to reflect on our actions and thoughts. After reading the Bible, we might think, “I could’ve handled that situation much better!” When we read the Bible, it sheds light on all our past and present actions and guides us in the right direction. If your faith has lost steam, check to see if you are reading the Bible!

Meditate.

“And in His law he meditates day and night.” To meditate means coming in contact with the word of God taught in the Bible. Meditation involves coming face to face with God. We think about how we should act in front of God. We think about how to please Him and how we should obey. We meditate day and night about our relationship with God and other people. It’s not enough to read the Bible and act without any meditation. We must meditate day and night.

If we execute, read the Bible, and meditate, we yield fruit and prosper. If we fail at any one of these three, we become powerless and weak. These three pillars of faith go around and around, with no starting or endpoint. To keep our faith vibrant, we must keep this cycle going: read the Bible, meditate, and execute. If any pillar crumbles, we are weakened, lost, and fall into misfortune.

Summary

To keep our faiths vibrant:

  1. Execute.
  2. Read the Bible.
  3. Meditate.

We must do all three all the time.
