7 Ever since the time of your ancestors you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord Almighty. Malachi 3:7

11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty. 12 “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty. Malachi 3:11

Repeat after me:

Turning away from God’s decree…!

Is turning away from God!

Those who turn away from God…!

Are cursed by pests devouring their crops…!

And fruits dropping before they are ripe!

When we turn away from God’s decree and His laws, we turn away from God. When we shun His commands and His voice, God leaves us. We are on our own. When pests devour our crops, we are on our own. When pests eat away at our happiness, we are on our own. My family is falling apart. My business is failing. I’m having trouble making ends meet. Yes, this could be God’s way of testing you and building character, but before we seek to console ourselves with Scripture aimed to rationalize our failures, we must take a hard look at our lives. Is God cursing me for leaving Him?

When “pests” enter our lives, we take aim at the pest. We fight it, blame it for all our unhappiness and failures. But if God is the one sending these pests, we are ultimately fighting against God. Instead of focusing on the superficial battle at hand, take a look at the big picture. Have you turned away from His decree and are now paying the price? If you return to God, all the obstacles become building blocks to a greater blessing.

“…the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe.” Another curse of turning away from God is fruit dropping before its ripe. You never quite get over the hump. You’re on the verge of success, but it falls through at the end. When God curses us, relationships, careers, and endeavors wither away before reaching full bloom. When God blesses us, things that appear hopeless turn out to be great successes.

When I look at our church, sorry to say I see God’s curse at hand. If you sit down at your business from morning to evening and not a single customer comes in, you might be cursed. If you make just enough to get by, you might be cursed. Instead of blaming your failures on others and circumstances, change your lives! Don’t fool yourself into thinking this is all a part of God’s plan, or He wants us to suffer and be miserable. Ask yourself the hard question, “Is God cursing me?” Have I turned away from His decrees? Set this part of your life straight and see what God does for you!

As we reach the end of days, the world becomes crueler. We live in a terrifying world where the evil, proud, and cruel rush to devour us. How can we stay safe from all the pests looking to ravage us? How can we follow through to completion and succeed in the tasks we set out to accomplish? If leaving God and His decrees are the reasons for these disasters, there’s only one way back to His protection and blessings: return to God! If we return to God, He eliminates all the pests taking aim at our lives. Fruits do not drop before they are ripe! God showers us with His infinite blessings.

Summary:

  1. Turning away from God is turning away from His decrees.
  2. If we turn away, pests devour us and fruit falls before its ripe.
  3. We are cursed if we turn away from God, blessed if we return to God.
