And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. James 1: 4
Let endurance have its perfect result. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, lacking in nothing. How amazing would it be if we showed endurance in everything we did! We would be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. Of course, having endurance and staying focused is difficult in today’s world. Everything moves fast. We jump from one thing to another, pride ourselves on multitasking. But this Bible verse demonstrates how important endurance is in our lives. It’s the key to living a complete life. Let me say that again: endurance is the key to living a perfect and complete life. Our lives are far from complete because we’ve failed in continuing to do the good things we have started and we’ve continued with great perseverance those evil things that God hates.
What do we mean by endurance? Endurance or perseverance means starting something and continuing with that course of action despite obstacles and hardships. It means continuing to do something even though it’s no longer “fun” or exciting. If we continue to sin with perseverance, it will lead to our destruction. If we continue to live righteously with endurance, it will lead to God’s blessings. Whatever we do consistently will lead to a result, good or bad. Hopefully, we can show endurance in doing godly things.
As Christians, we must build our endurance. At all costs, we must avoid becoming that person who starts many things on a whim and ends those things with equal levity. We see something we like or hear something that might be interesting. We do it for a short time and quit. This is not the formula for success! We must be prudent and judicious in the things we start, very slow and deliberate when we start something. But once we start it, we must continue with it, rain or shine. We must show endurance and follow through to the end.
Start reading and studying the Bible. Start preaching the gospel to others. Go to dawn prayer. Be very specific in your goals and stick with them. If you promise to preach the gospel to three people a day, stick to it! If you pledge to read five chapters a day, stick to it! Be deliberative and sober when starting an endeavor, but you must be active and unceasing once you begin.
We’ve all heard the story of the rabbit and the turtle. The rabbit boasted about how fast he could run. When he got hot and tired, it decided to stop and take a nap. The turtle kept walking step by step and never quit, no matter how tired or hot he got. The turtle just kept going and going. We must be the turtle to succeed. Someone smart, charismatic, talented, but with no endurance or willpower will never defeat someone less talented who continues doing a set task for a long time despite obstacles. Dogged determination and perseverance will always win.
Endurance is the key to leading a complete life, lacking in nothing. Be wise, slow, and measured when starting something. And once you begin, continue doing it without fail. “Let endurance have its perfect result.” Examine your life. What are the things you’ve started but have stopped? What can you start and continue to do? What are the bad things you should stop doing? Get your life in order and see how God showers you with His infinite blessings!
