15 However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you.
Deuteronomy 28:15
Three unchangeable facts exist.
One. If you are elected, chosen by God to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, you will go to heaven. God sets you on a course. You are regenerated, come to believe in Jesus, build your salvation, and go to heaven. You can’t at any point decide, “I’m not going to heaven or hell. I’m out!” You can rebel and do everything in your power to put yourself in hell, but you won’t go. And if you’re not elected, the entire world could come together and try to get you in, but it won’t matter. Whether we go to heaven or not depends entirely on God. We can’t decide our fate through our actions or lack of actions.
Two. God takes an interest in the lives of the elected. He engages and takes part in the lives of His chosen people. You can declare your independence from God or shun Him. You can say, “God will no longer meddle in my life!” It doesn’t matter. You can say, “I’ve given up on religion and God. He’s no longer a part of my life!” Another immutable fact we can’t ignore is that God takes an interest in our lives. He wants to mold us into His image, make us complete, holy, and pure like God. He has a purpose! We can think, “If I curse God and deny His existence, He will leave me alone!” No! He will chastise us, set obstacles, and give us challenges. Are you on the verge of success but never quite get there? Do things keep falling apart in your life? Are you facing hardships and unforeseen challenges? Repent! It’s God taking interest in your life. Accept it and move forward in faith.
Three. Two things shape our lives: blessings and curses. We can rationalize and concoct explanations for events in our lives, but it all comes down to whether we are being blessed or cursed. It’s that simple and absolute. You could say, “I have nothing to do with blessings or curses. I make my own way!” Yes, you make your own way, but you make it with God blessing or cursing you at every corner. If God curses you, all the help in the world won’t matter. If God blesses you, all the hate and vitriol turned against you will end up being enormous gifts. We should focus on keeping His commandments and receiving His blessings! We should focus on avoiding His curses! Once we recognize this immutable truth, we recognize the world to be moved by two forces: blessings and curses.
If we recognize and accept these three unchangeable facts, our lives can change for the better. We’re no longer lost or filled with despair or run aimlessly and “box as one beating the air.” It clears up a lot of confusion and doubt. We are elected by God. We will go to heaven. To build our salvation and make us whole, God takes an interest in our lives. Blessings and curses shape and mold us. Consider these three immutable facts and see how your life changes!
