“Noah did everything just as God commanded him.” Genesis 6:22
We live in times similar to Noah’s time before the flood. People have forgotten about God. We see beauty, do as our desires dictate, and have forgotten about God. “The sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose.” And the world is full of Nephilims. Who are the Nephilims? These were the offspring of the sons of God, giants, mighty ones, heroes of old, and persons of name.
In our world, our purpose in life and how we raise our children all point to becoming some version of the Nephilims. We want to be successful, giants, and world-renown. Think about it. Everything we do is to become some level of the Nephilims. That’s why we go to school, learn a skill, and make money. And we look up to the people in our world who are giants. We emulate them and follow them.
If there were no flood and no judgment day, the Nephilims would have ruled the world. The men and women who acted on every desire would have the time of their lives. The same holds true today. If this was it, all this would make sense. Become giants, fulfill all your desires, and forget about God. Noah was a complete fool. While others were busy making a living, building careers, and quenching every desire, Noah was listening to God and building an arc. It made no sense to build this arc in the middle of nowhere. It couldn’t be used for entertainment or as a transportation vessel. It had no practical use, yet Noah spent his days and nights building this thing.
It made no sense until the flood came. When the flood came, the arc was the only safe place in the world. It saved Noah from God’s judgment and set his place in the new world after the flood. Noah built the arc. We build our salvation. For many, building our salvation makes no sense. Because of our faith, we might take a career hit or lose money or make seemingly irrational decisions in the eyes of others. Like Noah, we are building something that makes no sense if there is no flood or judgment day. We build our arc because we know we will die at some point. We will meet our Maker and stand judgment.
Now, how did Noah build the arc? He did everything God commanded Him. This is what we need to do! At every moment, we need to ask, “God what are you commanding me?” We must find what He commands us to do and act accordingly. That’s how we build our arc. We can fall into the trap of doing the same things despite our circumstances changing. We can be creatures of habit and resist change. But know this. When out situation changes for the good or bad, it means what God is asking us to do has changed. Recognize this! When your circumstances change, it does not mean to stay the course and do the same thing; it means God’s requests have changed. Find what that is, and do it!
Setting our goals to become giants and famous in the world would make sense if there was no flood. If this was it, have at it and go after every desire you have. But if you believe in God and believe in judgment day, you need to start building your arc. Noah put a boat together. We need to put our salvation together. Do as God commands in every situation you encounter. Listen for His voice, and do as the voice commands. And when things change in your life, recognize it as God’s way of telling you He wants you to change something. If we build our arc, God will bless us in this life and the after. For what more can we ask?
