33 Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” 34 Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God—I say this to your shame. 1 Corinthians 15:33-34

Do you have a relationship with God? From Adam and Eve, we learn a valuable lesson about the dynamics of our relationship with God. Think about your other relationships. On what are they based? Family ties? Loyalty? Money? Comfort? A way to make a living? Whatever relationships we have, they are based and grounded in something.
Now, think about your relationship with God: what is it based on? Do you use God as a comfort blanket or someone to call when you’ve tried everything else? Our relationship with God should be based solely on Truth and His word. That’s it. To put it another way, Truth should be the only thing between you and God.
That’s how Adam and Eve’s relationship with God began. There was only Truth and His word. God commanded, and they obeyed. But what happened? The serpent slithered his way into the garden and tempted Eve. Before that, only Truth existed between God and Eve. God told them not to eat from the tree of good and evil. The devil attacks the very thing connecting God and Eve, saying, “Did God really say, “You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
This is what the devil does. The devil and sin are one. There is no sin where the devil isn’t present, and there’s no devil without sin. When we sin, we’re not just disobeying God; we are willfully severing our relationship with God. The devil has worked his way into our lives and stands between God and us just as the serpent did in the Garden of Eden.
What comes between you and God? This may be the most important question we can ask. What makes us disregard Truth and His word? What pushes Truth aside? Is it money? Family? Knowledge? Desire? In Mark 10, a wealthy man comes to Jesus and asks how to inherit eternal life. When Jesus says to sell everything and give to the poor, the rich man leaves sad and sorrowful. Money has come between him and God. We’re no different. We ask why God doesn’t listen to our prayers or bless us with good fortune without examining our relationship and everything that we’ve put between us and our relationship with the Lord!
If we put anything but Truth and the Word of God between God and us, we will never experience peace and eternal life. It’s that simple. Do you want to get closer to God? Do you want an intimate relationship with God? Recognize that Truth is the only thing that should be between you and God. Live your life according to Truth and His word. Don’t let anything else slither into your life! Don’t commit what is a trivial sin in your mind because its repercussion is alienation from God, and you’ve put a new master in His place.
The devil is always at work, trying to separate us from God. You can feel his presence working in every aspect of your life. Just a little sin here and there… just a little sin at work to get by… just a little sin to appease this person… whatever the case, recognize sin is the devil and the devil is sin. Don’t let the devil get between you and God.
Repeat after me!
The devil is a wedge!
The devil is a wedge driven between you and God!

Don’t let the devil come between you and God, and experience a life full of happiness, peace, and unending glory.
