Noah built an ark.
We build our salvation.
We learn three things from Noah’s story. First, the world Noah lived in did not understand his choices. Second, Noah didn’t let the loneliness and solitude engulf him. Third, Noah persevered. He did not sway or buckle.
Can you imagine what it was like for Noah to build that ark? Without any empirical evidence of a coming flood, Noah got up each morning and worked on this ark, which had no practical value in the world. He was not going to turn it into a museum or an animal shelter. He built it for a coming flood he had no proof was coming. Can you imagine how the world perceived him? It didn’t make sense to work on an ark when he could be doing something more practical and self-serving.
We live in a cynical world. We live in a world where people question our faiths and the things we do. They say, “There is no proof God exists or will come again. It’s all a fairy tale.” Like Noah, we are “building an ark” or in our terms, building our salvation, and for many, it seems irrational. Better time and money could be spent advancing careers or for living better in this world. Going to church, doing the works of faith seem as crazy as Noah building an ark without a drop of rain in the sky. We have no proof God is coming except for our faith, and this is not enough for a skeptical world.
How did Noah react? The solitude and loneliness could’ve destroyed him. He was alone in the world. Loneliness is a powerful emotion; this feeling of sadness about being alone in the world can destroy us, physically and spiritually. The loneliness is amplified when we embark on a course of action that others deem irrational and silly. There are times in our lives when we feel this solitude and isolation. With nowhere to turn and seek comfort, the loneliness and solitude can engulf us like wildfire, and before we know it, we have sold our faith and any prospect of hope.
Noah didn’t waver. He lived without worries. He never got depressed or worn down. He worked even harder on building the ark. Transcending all the skeptics and internal demons that could’ve crushed him, Noah remained blissful and carefree because he had absolute faith the flood was coming. He believed in God’s judgment.
We must live like Noah. We must work hard in constructing the ark. We can’t let the loneliness and the evil eyes of others break us down.
Stay happy.
Work diligently.
Live without worries.
Press on.
We work hard and continue our lives of faith because we know God is coming.
