Prayer is an integral part of our lives. It is the time to supplicate, repent, and discuss our lives with God. However, many of us pray but don’t know how to pray. Follow these four steps and change your life through prayer. First, believe God will listen to your prayers. Second, pray for the right things. Third, pray concisely. Finally, persevere and continue praying.

The first step in prayer is to have faith. If we pray in the name of Jesus Christ, we must believe that He has the power to hear and answer our prayers. We should not pray while thinking in the back of our minds, “There’s no way God can do this!” Before we even start the process of praying, we must embolden our faiths and believe without a shred of doubt, “God can do this.”

After we have fortified our faiths and believe God can answer all our prayers, we must be careful about what we pray for; in other words, what we pray for must be good for God, good for us, and good for all the people around us. If we think of only our selfish desires and pray for that in the name of Jesus Christ, He might not listen because it will be detrimental. We can pray for money or to be rich, but God may not answer that prayer because He knows the money will destroy us. So in this second step, be discriminating and careful about what you pray for and make sure the fruition of that prayer will please God, you, and the people around you.

Third, pray concisely. When we close our eyes and pray, many times, our thoughts wander. We fall in and out of sleep or think about something that happened that day, or we drift off into fantasy land. And after this wild mental journey, we cap it off with a “Pray in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.” That is not an effective prayer. Pray in short bursts. In other words, pray for something and immediately “send” it to God by saying, “Pray in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.” A prayer might sound like this: “Dear God, I pray for my health and the health of my family. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, amen. Dear God, I pray for my job. Let me turn glory to God at my workplace. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.” We might say “Pray in the name of Jesus Christ, amen” twenty or thirty times in one prayer sitting. Instead of letting your thoughts ramble and praying sloppily, be concise, direct, and clear.

Finally, we must continue praying. Think of it like this: everything we pray for is like a bowl. Each bowl is a different size and shape. For God to answer that particular prayer, we must fill that bowl with the right amount of prayer. Some bowls are bigger than others and require extended prayer, which might translate to many months or years of diligent prayer. We must never give up. Pray until that particular bowl is full!

If we follow these four steps, our prayers will be more effective. Remember to believe God can answer all our prayers. Then, we must be careful about our prayer topics. Third, we must pray in short burst, “stamping” or sending each prayer with a “Pray in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.” And finally, each prayer topic has a different size bowl. Pray unceasingly until God answers. We can overcome whatever we face in life through prayer. Follow these four steps and change your life!
